Official contest rules
last updated October 14, 2026
These rules apply to every steppix challenge. They're part of the terms of service. Where a challenge page in the app shows specific terms (entry, daily goal, dates, time window, format), those terms and these rules together are the rules of that challenge.
No purchase is required to play steppix. Free challenges and free "drops" are open to everyone eligible. Paid challenges require an entry. The outcome of every challenge depends entirely on the entrant's own performance: walking their daily step goal. Nothing is decided by chance.
1. Sponsor
Challenges are operated and sponsored by Riso Development LLC, 4103 Raffia Drive, Naples, FL 34119. Apple Inc. is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in any way with, any steppix challenge or contest. Google, Whop and our other providers are not sponsors either.
2. Who can enter
- Free challenges: anyone 13 or older with a steppix account.
- Paid challenges: you must be at least 18 years old (older in some states: 19 in Alabama; 21 in Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana and Massachusetts), and physically located in the United States when you join and when you cash out, in a state where paid challenges are available. See eligibility.
- One account per person. VPNs, proxies and location spoofing are not allowed.
- Employees of Riso Development LLC and members of their households may not enter paid challenges.
- Void where prohibited or restricted by law.
3. How to enter
Choose a challenge in the app and confirm the entry. Each challenge shows its entry, daily step goal, start and end dates, format, and any time window before you join. Entries are $10, $20, $30, $40, $50 and $60 (or free).
4. Fees and the prize pool
- Service fee: 10% + $0.30 per paid entry, added on top of the entry and shown as entry / service fee / total before you pay. The service fee is never part of the prize pool. It's the same whether you pay by card, wallet balance or entry credit.
- Prize pool: the sum of all entries in the challenge. You can see the live total in the app.
- The whole pool goes to finishers. Steppix takes nothing out of the prize pool. The service fee is the only thing steppix charges for a challenge.
- Fee terms are fixed when a challenge is created. A later change to steppix's fees never changes a challenge that already exists.
5. Minimum entrants and cancellation
Each challenge needs a minimum number of entrants when it starts: 10 for official challenges, 5 for public community challenges and 2 for private challenges. If a challenge has fewer, it's cancelled and every entrant is refunded in full, including the service fee, back to wherever the money came from. We may also cancel a challenge with full refunds for technical, legal or integrity reasons.
6. When a challenge runs
- Joins close when the challenge starts: midnight Eastern Time at the start of its first day.
- Challenge days are counted in your own time zone, the one your device was in when you joined. Each day runs from midnight to midnight local time. Your time zone for a challenge is locked when you join, so travel doesn't change it.
- The challenge ends after its last day closes.
7. The daily goal
To stay in, you must reach the challenge's daily step goal on every day of the challenge.
- Time-window challenges ("early birds") count only steps taken inside the window shown (for example 6:00–9:00 AM in your time zone).
- Survival challenges: miss a day and you're eliminated. Players are eliminated daily; everyone still in after the last day is a finisher.
- Duels: two players, same goal. Each player who hits the goal every day is a finisher.
8. Steps and syncing
- Steps count only if they're recorded by Apple Health from your own iPhone or Apple Watch (Apple's own step counting). Manually entered steps and steps written by other apps or devices don't count. An iPhone and an Apple Watch worn together are counted once per minute, never twice.
- Steps count only once they sync from Apple Health to steppix, which happens when you open steppix (and in the background when iOS allows).
- Each day stays open until 10:00 a.m. local time the next day. Steps you walked on a day that sync before then count toward that day. Only steps walked during the day itself (or inside its time window) count; steps walked after midnight never count toward the previous day.
- After that, the day closes. Unsynced steps no longer count, and closed days are final.
- Keeping your steps synced is your responsibility. The easiest way: open steppix once a day. Steppix isn't responsible for steps that don't sync in time because of your device, your settings, permissions you've turned off, or Apple Health.
- Exception: if a result is affected by an error in steppix's own systems, steppix will review it and correct it, including by restoring an entry or paying what should have been paid.
9. How payouts are calculated
When the last day of a challenge closes, everyone who met the goal every day is a finisher. Payouts work like this (worked with live fee settings):
- prize pool = number of entrants (N) × entry. example: 100 × $20.00 = $2,000.00.
- forfeited = entries of everyone who didn't finish. example: 30 × $20.00 = $600.00.
- each finisher's share = forfeited ÷ number of finishers (F), rounded down to the cent. steppix takes nothing out of the pool. example: $600.00 ÷ 70 = $8.57.
- each finisher receives their entry back + their share. example: $20.00 + $8.57 = $28.57.
- rounding: cents left over from rounding down go to steppix. example: $0.10.
If every entrant finishes, nothing is forfeited and every finisher gets their entry back. If a finisher's entry was paid partly with entry credit, that part is returned as entry credit; the rest of their payout is cash.
Odds of winning: whether you finish depends only on your own walking, and every finisher receives the same share. The amount of your share depends on how many entrants finish, which isn't known until the challenge ends. Payout estimates shown in the app are estimates, not promises.
10. If nobody finishes
If there are no finishers: everyone gets their entry back in full. the only exception: players disqualified for cheating get nothing back. The service fee isn't refunded, because the challenge ran. If the only entrants were disqualified, steppix keeps the pool.
11. Free drops
Drops are free to enter, with a prize funded by steppix and shown in the app. Finishers split the prize equally (rounded down to the cent). No purchase or payment of any kind is required to enter or win a drop.
12. Entry credit
Promotional entry credit (such as the welcome credit and referral credit) can pay for entries, not the service fee, and can't be withdrawn as cash. If a credit-funded entry wins, the credit portion is returned as credit and winnings are paid as cash. Unused credit is forfeited when you close your account and may expire if a promotion ends, as stated when it was issued.
13. Fair play, review holds and disqualification
- Step data is checked automatically for signs of cheating (for example: large step counts with almost no distance, constant machine-like cadence, overnight bursts, late backfills, disagreement with your iPhone's motion data, or duplicate accounts on one device).
- A flag doesn't mean you're disqualified. If a finisher has an open flag at settlement, their payout is held for human review. If the review clears it, the payout is released to your wallet.
- If cheating is confirmed, the entrant is disqualified: they're not a finisher, their entry is forfeited, any held winnings are forfeited, and their account may be suspended or closed. Disqualified entries never receive a refund.
- Steppix's decisions on fair play are final, subject to the dispute process below.
14. Taxes
Winners are responsible for any taxes on their winnings. Where the law requires, we'll ask for tax information and issue tax forms (such as IRS Form 1099).
15. Cash-out
Winnings go to your steppix wallet. You can cash out once your balance is at least $25 (the minimum is waived when closing your account), after a one-time identity check. Limits: $500 per 24 hours and $2,000 per 7 days. Methods currently offered:
- standard · 1–3 business days · free
- instant · fee shown before you confirm
Location is checked again when you cash out.
16. Disputes about a result
If you think a result is wrong, email support@steppix.app within 30 days after the challenge settles, with the challenge name, your username and what you think happened. We'll review the step data and respond within 10 business days. Disputes not resolved this way are governed by the dispute resolution section of the terms of service.
17. General
Steppix may change or cancel a challenge, with full refunds, if it can't run fairly or as described (for example because of a system failure, fraud or a legal requirement). By entering, you agree to these rules and to steppix's decisions, which are final on all matters about a challenge, subject to section 16. Personal information is handled under our privacy policy.
