Free challenges are open to everyone 13 and older. Paid challenges have three requirements: your age, where you are, and one account per person.
Where paid challenges are available
paid challenges are available in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, to people physically located there when they join and when they cash out.
What counts is where you physically are at the moment you join a paid challenge and at the moment you cash out, not your home address. Once you've joined, your entry counts wherever you walk.
Minimum age
You need to meet the minimum age for the state you're in when you join or cash out:

We ask for your date of birth when you sign up. We may ask you to verify it, and identity verification is required before your first cash-out.
How location is checked
When you join a paid challenge or cash out, steppix checks two things:
- your device location, requested at that moment (you'll be asked for "while using the app" permission), and
- your network location, from your IP address.
At least one must place you in a US state where paid challenges are available, and neither can place you outside the US. We store only the resulting state. Location is never checked while counting steps. See the privacy policy.
VPNs and proxies
VPNs, proxies, Tor and hosting networks aren't allowed for paid challenges or cash-outs. If one is detected, turn it off and try again on Wi-Fi or cellular. Faking your location breaks the terms and can lead to forfeited winnings and a closed account.
One account per person
Each person may have one steppix account, and a device may be linked to only one account.
Not eligible?
You can still play free challenges and free drops, follow friends and track your steps. Laws about skill-based contests vary and change; if paid challenges stop being available where you joined before a challenge starts, your entry is voided and refunded in full.
